CATALYZING SPACE
The conception of catalyzing space is crucial to my spatial design approach. In chemistry a catalyst accelerates a reaction, making molecules split or bond quicker than they normally would, without actually adding anything that was not there in the first place.
The idea of the designer as a catalyst implies, that he or she engages with an environment in a way, that is sensitive to the arrangements, resources and people that already exist there. Their only purpose is to find ways that help the local stakeholders to engage and communicate with each other, so they can bond and come up with solutions, that shape their shared living environment according to mutual interests.
Concerning the resources that are required to make regarded change happen, this approach intends and prefers to use materials, skills and working power that are already part of the referred system. It requires a broad and thorough research on both the material and, particularly, on the human side.
ABOUT ME
I am a half Filipino artist and designer born, raised and based in Berlin, Germany. My work is spread broadly over the field of visual and performative practice. Most artistic works of mine are created in search of an aesthetical affection within either concept, process or outcome.
As a designer, on the other hand, I am pushing projects that strengthen local communities, while keeping the global one in mind. I believe that communication is key to an intercultural understanding, which forms the basis for the cooperation that is needed in order to close intra- and international social gaps.
Within a globalized system, in which no problem leaves its source unaffected, the responsible distribution of wealth is in everyones interest and has to be.
