THOUGHTS AND PRACTICE

Fabian Faylona is a Filipino-German freelance artist and designer based in Berlin. His interdisciplinary practice ranges from concept development to hands-on spatial design projects, as well as artistic interventions and research of local environments.

As part of his bachelor's degree in Industrial Design he specialized in activating local living environments through participatory formats, such as the collective construction of public spaces. He facilitates building and design workshops centered around topics of cooperation, cohabitation and sustainability. The integration of site-specific resources and the experimentation with material qualities play a crucial role in his participatory formats as well as his own design practice.

His artistic research draws from phenomenology, environmental humanities and post-colonial theory. It is shaped by questions regarding the necessity of categorical boundaries, limits of representation, subaltern agency and the possibility of art to mediate through hegemonic imbalances of power. This ongoing exploration has so far manifested itself in the shape of spatial installations, sculptures and objects as well as a series of photographs, drawings and publications.
