FORAGE BEDAZZLE
This two-week aluminium casting workshop with teenagers from Schlesische 27 Berlin, conducted in collaboration with Louis Bindernagel, invited participants to explore the difference between natural and artificial materials.
Using foraged items from a nearby forest, participants created unique jewellery pieces by making sand casting molds of leaves, sticks, tree bark, and mushrooms, and melting discarded aluminium in a small-scale electric furnace.
The workshop was aimed at unaccompanied minors who had recently arrived in Germany and ran alongside daily language courses as part of the S27 education program. Beyond developing practical and creative skills, the workshop provided a space for the teenagers to connect with each other—sharing knowledge, translating tasks for one another, and engaging collectively in the creative process.
The final exhibition allowed participants to present their jewellery to fellow trainees at Schlesische 27, showcasing both their craftsmanship and the collaborative learning experience. The workshop combined artistic experimentation, technical skill-building, and social engagement in a supportive and interactive environment.
