The program explored practices of knowing nature(s) beyond extractivism based on the concept of a ‘Right for Opacity’ (Édouard Glissant). As alternatives to modes of exploitation and reduction to the transparent, the concept invites to nurture relations among humans by leaving space to the ungraspable. Extending this framework beyond the human and tuned to the site of the Floating University, the artist-researchers propose turbid, situated and murky perspectives.
How can we “give up our obsession with discovering what lies at the bottom of natures”? Which modes of sensing can we employ to relate to each other and to our surroundings beyond seeking full transparency? And what are the problematics of translating the other-than-human?
