KULTURSÄULE – CULTURE COLUMN
Paper / Marker / Acrylic , 2020
Due to restrictions owed to the covid-19 pandemic, this cultural info board "Kultursäule" had no events to advertise for. The plain white column therefore got repurposed to serve as a cylindrical canvas. The work ment to be a statement during a time in which the 'systemic importance‘ of art and culture was openly denied by governments and other administrative institutions.
The temporary large-scale drawing was created to interact with public space and the people who inhabit it. By inserting abstract forms into the environment, the artwork aimed to engage with the community and provide a moment of reflection within a charged societal discourse. The drawing's presence in the public sphere invited passersby to pause, observe, and perhaps reconsider their surroundings and interactions, fostering a space for contemplation and dialogue amidst the prevailing social tensions.
This public artwork was commissioned by the Arts Council of the city of Pforzheim.
