Funny Furnace
As part of the Bataan Work Series this furnace is built from local clay, dug out and porcessed in order to gain a deeper understanding of the land and its materiality.
The design tries to combine the nessecary features for both, low temperature bread and pizza baking, as well as high temperature burning of clay bricks and Terracotta objects. It therefore works with two openings which can be sealed depending on the function required.
Since it is an ongoing process to improve mechanisms auch as air draft and heat containment, the kiln is built in a way that can be easily altered and extended.
First firings resulted in objects which are quite stable, but not yet able to hold water over a longer amount of time.
